Trump floats idea of new military branch: ‘Space Force’

The left is mocking President Trump for floating the idea of a Space Force, but the president could very well be on to something here.

“Space is a war-fighting domain, just like the land, air, and sea,” he told a group of U.S. Marines at Air Station Miramar in southern California yesterday.

“We may even have a Space Force, develop another one, Space Force.” One headline by a progressive publication (not worth mentioning) called the president’s idea “the laughingstock of the galaxy.”

However, the idea of a military Space Corps has been in discussion with lawmakers on Capitol Hill for quite some time — long before the president made these remarks and long before liberals had their chance to knock his idea with a splashy headline.

Alabama representative Mike Rogers has been a leading advocate for a dedicated Space Corps which has been at the heart of several military debates and failed to become law in the Senate.

Listen to the president’s remarks below:

According to the Wall Street Journal, ” Transferring responsibilities to a stand-alone space force would entail the biggest structural shift inside the military since 1947, when the Air Force was created from its predecessor, the Army Air Corps.”
