The University of Louisville men’s basketball team is heading back to famous Madison Square Garden. ESPN announced Tuesday that the Cardinals will face Indiana on Dec. 9 at 9 p.m. ET as part of the 2014 Jimmy V Men’s Basketball Classic.
The Cardinals and Hoosiers follow the first game of the doubleheader that features Villanova and Maryland at 7 p.m. ESPN will televise both games from New York City.
The early-season event will conclude the eighth annual Jimmy V Week, a week-long initiative across multiple ESPN platforms and programs featuring special content to help raise funds for cancer research. In seven years, Jimmy V Week has generated $8,246,000 in total contributions for The V Foundation for Cancer Research, including a record-setting number of $1,827,000 in 2013.
All-time, Louisville and Indiana have met 16 times, with the Hoosiers holding a 10-6 advantage. The Cardinals won the last matchup 95-76 on Feb. 1, 2003, at Freedom Hall. Francisco Garcia came off the bench and scored 23 points, while Reece Gaines (17), Ellis Myles (13), and Luke Whitehead (11) each tallied double-figure points.
The Cardinals will be making their second appearance in the Jimmy V Classic after first playing Arizona in the event in 2006.
