Fred Ford’s two-run homer in the eighth inning put Lexington in front, and pitchers Luis Rico and Andrew Edwards combined for a five-hit shutout as the Legends blanked the West Virginia Power 2-0 Thursday night.


The Legends had 11 hits in the game.  Each team left 10 men on base. 


Ford’s homer came with one out in the eighth and followed a single by Elier Hernandez.


Rico pitched the first four innings.  He allowed three hits, walked three batters and struck out two.  Edwards (1-0), who pitched at Marshall County High School and Western Kentucky University, relieved at the start of the fifth inning.   He retired the first nine batters he faced, and in five innings, gave up two hits, walked one batter and struck out two.


West Virginia reliever Justin Topa (0-1) took the loss.
